Kristina Hammerschmidt is the news director at KYW Newsradio.

She started her career as a television news producer before making the switch to radio in February 2016. Kristina was born and raised in Philadelphia. She's known that she's wanted to work in this industry since she was 11 and was able to accomplish that goal after graduating from Temple University in 2011 with a journalism degree. Kristina accepted her first job as a broadcast news producer at WBOC-TV in Salisbury, MD and, after fewer than two years, returned home to work as a per diem writer for CBS-3. During this time she realized how much she missed being in a control room producing live newscasts; that led her to accept a news producer position at WFMZ-TV in Allentown, PA. She worked in the Lehigh Valley for two years before settling in back home in the Philadelphia market at KYW Newsradio. Kristina was a writer and editor at KYW Newsradio prior to becoming the station's news director in 2019.

Outside of work, Kristina has traveled to Africa several times as part of the Swaziland Relief team. The non-profit organization provides short-term aid and long-term relief to the Kingdom of Swaziland. For two weeks each Summer, the team travels around the country visiting orphanages, holding mobile medical clinics and distributing items like clothes, blankets, and shoes. Kristina enjoys traveling, hiking, camping, and spending time with family. She married her best friend, Jason, in October 2016. They live in Media, PA.
